This is a true time capsule of the late 1970’s. After 25 years in storage it has come out of hiding.
In 1979, the only commercial convertible available was the 450 SL Mercedes. Andy Hotton & Associates decided to make this custom convertible out of the brand new redesigned Capri made by Mercury. It was fully sanctioned by Lincoln Mercury and sold out of their dealerships. This very car is prototype number one and at one point was Road and Track Magazines feature car. We have included that article on this website. This car was in one episode of the “Hart to Hart” television show which ran from 1979 to 1984. Only forty-six of these cars were eventually made and sold throughout the world. It has just over 30,000 original miles, a 302 cubic inch V8 handling package, magnesium wheels, air-conditioning and red leather interior. It still has its original white custom lacquer paint job with hand done crimson red pin striping. It’s very sporty and handles quite well. We’ve been told by the people who originally drove it, that it’s much more comfortable than a Corvette. It even gets more compliments than a much more expensive car. The convertible top is perfectly well preserved made of black hearts material and comes with its own custom cover. Click on the link below to read the Motor Trend 1979 article on this car.
